The roles of the e-coach

When your student follows a digital training, whether this is blended learningA combination of instruction- and distance education. (Contact Education = education in a direct contact between the teacher or supervisor of an educational activity and the student, tied to a specific time and place of education provision)
or distance learningDistance education= education provided through media, so that the student is not bound to a particular time or place of education provision., discipline and perseverance are needed. After all, your student follows the course entirely independently and needs to decide on the time management for doing so.

The presence of an e-coach is a valuable encouragement. The e-coach guides the learning processes. As an e-coach, you stimulate and activate the learning attitude of your student. As an e-coach, you strive to get the best out of your student, not only by transferring information, but especially by motivating, encouraging, challenging, summarizing, stimulating…

You can fulfill different roles when guiding the educational activities via a digital environment:

an organizational role

a social role

a pedagogical – content – related- role

To fulfill these roles, you need a couple of specific competences, such as IT skills or certain didactical skills.

A summary of the most important competences can be found in the component ‘in-depth study’.
