Social role

Socialising is also a decisive factor of the online guidance process of your student. It is important to motivate and stimulate your students to avoid a feeling of isolation, a decrease in participation and in the worst case: drop-out. This can be achieved by means of the following interventions:

1. Create a pleasant, positive atmosphere by:

  • sending a welcome message to your student;
  • wishing your student good luck;
  • creating trust with your students so they feel comfortable;
  • creating possibilities for your students to get to know each other from a distance;
  • allowing for an informal chat, apart from the assignment;
  • giving personal recognition;
  • being open, honest, respectful, flexible, stimulating and present.

2. Motivate your students by:

  • Supporting and facilitating their learning processes in addition to providing the content-related support.
  • Regularly ‘showing’ yourself in the digital learning environment, which will stimulate the students to participate actively.
  • Encouraging participation.
  • Promoting harmony in the group.

Having specific attention for the less active students.

3. Confirm the input of your students by:

  • giving your students compliments for a good input;
  • responding promptly to questions of your students or at least by letting your students know within which time span they can expect a reply;
  • responding  in a friendly, personal tone.
