Types of collaborative learning

Four types of collaborative learning can be distinguished as indicated in the figure below. These four types differ in the roles performed by the students.

In this module we focus on two roles which occur regularly in practice, i.e.

  • type 1 ‘The student as a substitute teacher’

  • type 4 ‘Group training without a teacher: students guide and support each other’
